Governing Council

The Governing Council is a significant contributor to the daily operation, improvement and success that is achieved by our school.

The council consists of mainly parents and carers but also community members and teacher representatives as well as the school Principal.

Elections are held yearly and interested parents/carers are encouraged to nominate.  Similarly parents/carers can volunteer to participate on one of the many sub-committees which contribute to the school's operation and improvement.  Below is a more detailed description of the purpose of the Governing Council.

The object of the Council is to involve the school community in the governance of the school to strengthen and support public education in the community.

FUNCTIONS OF THE COUNCIL

The Council shares responsibility with the Principal for the governance of the school and has a variety of functions. These include:

  • Involving the school community in the governance of the school.
  • Participating in setting the broad direction and vision of the school.
  • Participating in strategic planning for the school.
  • Providing consultation to determine policies for the school such as those related to the safety, welfare and discipline of students.
  • Having a voice in the application of the total financial resources available to the school including the regular review of the budget.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the Site Learning Plan.
  • Reporting to the school community and the Minister on school achievements and performance.
  • Overseeing the proper care and maintenance of any property owned by the Council.
  • Assisting with raising money for school related purposes.
